Why fat monkey?
Fat Monkey Studios was born out of necessity, a need to have a cut house in Liverpool.
Out of this need, Chief Ape (Freddie Barker) ventured off to Germany in 2025 to train on and collect a vinyl lathing machine, capable of the fattest cuts…
Once safely back home, it found it’s home in the Baltic, the epicentre of the musical happenings. Operating inside the Cains Brewery Building.
The choice to go with Fat Monkey Studios means getting the fattest cut about.

Who is chief ape?
The Chief Ape of the operation is Freddie Barker.
“I have always been fascinated by vinyl, from playing, mixing and just having a love of physical media. Vinyls have always been THE way of listening to music, a proper representation of effort it takes to create the music itself. A keen musician/producer myself this was always the last step of any musical project, filling the dream of having it etched on discs, to then have it passed round to mates and family. It was through this love I made the decision to take it further and get a Vinyl Cutting Lathe, with a dream to supply a service to many in the same position. Big runs are just not viable for small DJ’s/Bands/Artists so my service will catered for the un-catered. Offering small runs all the way down to one-offs, no project is too small. However with a batch limit at 50 it ensure your release is as boutique as it gets.”
